Catholic School Elaborations – Standards for the Teaching Profession

The vocation of teaching is reflected in a unique way within Catholic schools and this is lived out by the staff within those communities as they seek to grow the “encounter with Christ.”

The Catholic elaborations on the Education Council’s Standards for the Teaching Profession provide a framework for personal and professional reflection and support the growth of the encounter with Christ.

The hope is that these elaborations will be a helpful addition to the discussions that take place during discussions around job descriptions and appraisals.

The elaborations are global statements, and we are currently in the process of developing a series of support documents for each of the specific roles within Catholic teaching, which schools will be able to tailor to the specific needs of the staff within their communities.

The elaborations themselves came about as part of a two-year consultation process with schools, staff and educationalists throughout New Zealand and we are grateful to all those who contributed to their development.

The lead writers were Frank Wafer, Archdiocese of Wellington, Rosalie Connors, Diocese of Palmerston North.  Our thanks are extended to them.
